The reason CCAS has managed to stay open without regular funding is all down to the dedication of its regular workers, volunteers, donors and fundraisers. Volunteers help staff clean, groom and handle the animals and give much-needed exercise to the canine residents. Looking after so many animals is a lot of work, so as Avis puts it, ‘We could always use more volunteers!’
Individuals and businesses in the local area also help out by donating some of the large amounts of food needed to feed all the hungry mouths. Various groups of students from NBCC Woodstock have donated their time and energies to different projects, including the Carpentry students who built sturdy, covered daytime runs for the dogs.
Some items that are always required that you can donate are: Laundry detergent, Paper towels, Disinfectant, Towels, Old blankets, Quilted placemats for kittens, and Pet food.
There are lots of ways to help support the work of the Carleton County Animal Shelter – walking dogs, grooming cats, helping keep the shelter clean, buying a raffle ticket, holding a fundraiser, having your pet’s photo taken with Santa, making a donation (financial donations are tax-deductible), adopting a cat or dog – every bit helps.
